It all depends if the back box has a silencer or if its just a straight through exhaust, 3" is usually a wee bit louder than normal, but choice of back box is the key...

I have a fully decatted 3" system fitted on mine, the center has a small resonator and the back box is a silencer. Never had a problem noise wise.
One problem you will have is MOT emissions , unless yours is registered before 31st July '95.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread. But is this correct, if your car is registered before 31 july 95 you can decat your car some MOT time?

I hope it is, but i thought it was 93.

Apexi are a good make. Depends what you have on now. If you have a full OE system you might get an extra 10-15 bhp if your lucky.

Looking at, I maybe wrong, it says between 92 and 95 if it is in the book it would be a cat test. Mine is a 94 however it is a import would this mean its not in the book?

"Dear Mr B,

Thank you for your email enquiry dated 23rd September 2010, concerning an emissions test.

The 'In Service Emissions' booklet is a UK specification booklet. If the
vehicle is an import then this information would not be captured in this
booklet. As the vehicle in question is an imported vehicle then depending
on the age would depend on whether the vehicle would be required to go
through a non-CAT test or whether it would go through a CAT test using the
default limits.

You have stated that vehicle registration B13 BAT is a 1993 vehicle. Due
to this the vehicle would be required to go through a non-CAT test and need
to meet the following limits:

CO <= 3.5%
HC <= 1200ppm

I hope this information has assisted you with your enquiry, but if you have
any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind Regards

Think that clears it up nicely .

So yeah, as you see.
