Smile what is this?

On my classic Sti i could hear a hissing sound from the engine so i decided to check the problem.

As in the picture the drawn circle shows where the problem is. the right side has the dump valve connected to it and the left also has a pipe connected to it. This is where the problem is, this pipe looks like somone has blocked it off and put some strong glue type on it from hissing. ive put my finger on the end to stop the sound and it works.

Basically my question is, what is this pipe and had it come off something or does it stay closed? or has it been bypassed? what do i do with it or do i close it up and leave it.

Also what is it suppose to do?

Thanks in advance

On my classic the left it pluged up by a rubber cover and the right is connected by a pipe to the recirculating valve. When i disconnected mine the car was running terrible. That's all i know.

Thanks
Sam

As above, it should have a rubber cover over it, tight fitting, and it can be used to fit a boost gauge if necessary.

It DOES need blocked though or you have a serious induction leak

Does your boost gauge work? If it does then it wasn't connect to that outlet.
