1) It's not wastegate noise...

2) You need a suitable turbo (roller bearing for example) and then blank off the dump valve altogether

As above, its not wastegate is turbo stall. Its the pressure going back through turbo.

And yes need a turbo which can handle it. TD series. and some newer VF's i think can.

All this to get a stupid noise and NO other gains?

You DO know that rally car engines are rebuilt after every rally don't you? How often are you going to rebuild yours?

Ignore Scrooge up there LOL bah Humbug!

Short answer is there is no easy or cheap way to get this on a classic safely.

You are going to need a better turbo, remap and proably induction kit to get the full noise and then probably a FMIC or an STI New age Top mount to get the best out of the turbo.

It's not cheap at all, you'll get good power gains but all this for a sound that does nothing.

Most people mod their cars for the performance gains and the sound is a welcome by product, not vice versa LOL

Here ya go buddy :

VF35 good for 340bhp - £300 second hand
FMIC Japspeed - £200
Downpipe 100CEL sports Cat JapSpeed - £100 ish I think
Walbro 255lph - £90ish
Induction kit - £100 ish second hand
Remap - £250 upwards, depends what you go with
DV Bungs - £25 from a DIY/plumbing shop LOL

Bigger injectors Possibly, depends what you buy

There ya go rough prices, and then you have all the time to fit everything and the cost of the little bits and pieces that break on route i.e. turbo studs

The obviously you'll need some good brakes to deal with the extra power etc etc.

Subaru - Bottomless money pit but so so much fun..... Even when mine was damn near done I was still finding stupid little things to do to it like painting calipers white, even that aint cheap really - £35 HT paint, £20 HT decals plus time

Buy one and enjoy it

I'm loving it: £55 to paint and sticker up some calipers?

Mine were done with Hammerite Smooth, £5 a can and "Brembo" stickers made by my local signwriter at £1 each.

Ha ha , there's something to be said for being Scrooge, eh?

I used to have a stage 1 tuned Sapphire Cosworth that used to chatter it's **** off. All that was needed was a group A Cone filter and the DV blanked off. Cosworths are easy to do. Don't know about Impreza's though.

I got a bracket made up for the standard air box, which takes the bottom away. and got a harder spring in DV, that way get best of both worlds, chatter and DV.

Not sure why some people have to put a downer on things. Just enjoy it mate.

Some people want to "put a downer on things", because some OTHER people don't know the damage that SOME mods can do. We do, and some of us learned the hard way.;(

We just pass on hard-earned knowledge.

Then it's up to the op if they want to take the risk.

I have a Blitz induction cover fitted, which doesn't need the bottom half of the standard air box.

If you fit an induction kit and a resonator delete you should get the sound your after. To make it louder go dumpvalve less.
