Default Losing Patience.....

I have had my 2002 WRX Wagon for 8 months, 3 days after I bought it the engine management light came on, error code P1170, I suspected the Lambda sensor so I replaced, cleared the code but it came back within 10 miles reporting the same error.
A few days went by and the started to become difficult to drive from cold, stuttering quite badly at low speeds which forced to drive in a higher gear just to overcome, also the car wouldn't boost reliably, sometimes it pulled normally most other times it revs normally but is gutless upto 4500rpm then it pulls again, but no other error codes other than P1170. So I replaced plugs and coil packs, this didn't change anything either.

I should mention that the stuttering is almost gone when the car is at full temp, there is an occasional hiccup / very slight judder when cruising at motorway speeds.

I was now getting bored with the car, so I decided to change every sensor related to fuelling / spark. So I purchased a second hand inlet manifold from a very low mileage 2004 WRX which included injectors, coil packs, throttle body, idle control.....everything.
Fitting this didn't change anything, so I changed the fuel pump (Walbro 255) and fuel filter.....this hasn't changed anything either.

The car is less stuttery in the morning but the boost / performance is still not constant, I still have an engine warning light on and now have 2 error codes P0546 / P1170 and the exhaust is very, very, very clean as if it is running lean.

Does anybody have any suggestions other that removing the engine warning light?

E

Has the car been mapped on the Walbro? Did you try 02 sensor and/or MAF?

The car is standard other than a Prodrive exhaust, the CAT is still fitted and standard up-pipe.

The car hasn't been mapped on the Walbro pump, I just checked I had healthy pressure with the return blocked (over 10bar), from memory it was running 3.2bar at tickover, I could be wrong, but I know the old pump was only giving 4.4bar with the return blocked off.

take it to a specialist, your chasing it round the engine bay costing you money and not solving your issue.

That, to be honest would be my next move.
Can anybody recommend anyone in the North West area?
I spoke to a Specialist in Hebden Bridge, West Yorks but he seemed to have less of an idea about engines than me.

Andrew Carr is a mapper based in the Preston area, if you could get to him he'd most likely be able to diagnose what's wrong...

dunx

P.S. Howard @ HDC can be a bit like that...

That'll be HDC or Pennine then! I've had no direct contact with either, but from what i have read, i wouldn't want any.

Richard Henry in Bradford seems to have a good rep with the lads on here. Put his name in the search on here.
