Question refitting cats for mot....

hi guys, i have to put my 02 bugeye wrx in for mot next week and therefore have to put the cats back on. luckilly the previous owner gave me the original exhaust with cats when i got the car. it has the standard PPP back box fitted, but full decat other than that. i have the original centre section, downpipe section, and what looks like a standalone cat and honestly i don't have a clue where this goes!!! i read somewhere that this may be an up pipe, but i'm not sure where it goes. oh the shame!

can anyone tell me how much of all this needs to be refitted for the emissions?
please please please

foz200315, yeah it has the PPP option, will this make any difference?

turbotits, i will try and do pics, but i'm pretty sure its the uppipe, i've got a receipt for a stainless steel replacement uppipe so i know its been removed.
the other 2 i take it are in the downpipe and centre section?

mark, thats what i used to do with my s14a 200sx, but it seems they are very reluctant to shove the probe up another car these days, no matter how much i beg.

Because of the changes the PPP makes to the exhaust system, I think it's a sport cat and then straight through to back box.
This would help to identify what bits are needed and what bits are not but as someone else has already suggested, photos would be the best (if you can't find a friendly MOT place that is )

hmmm, now i'm confused. i've got the PPP certificate, and its got a prodrive backbox (even though i'd like a nice jap style angled box) but the centre section definately has a box in it, and the downpipe has another box, just above the bend, so i wouldn't say it's straight through system.
any suggestions on getting pics off an iphone?

Might be the resonator on the center section - not a cat - not sure though. I am pretty sure the PPP uses the sports cat on the down pipe though and that will pass MOT.

... Looks like I could be wrong, just dug this up

https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...ports-cat.html

Secont post from bottom - "yes you are correct not all got the sport cat,the sti's got sport cat and centre decat the wrx's only had centre decat and retained standard downpipe cat"

Does this shed any light?

cheers foz, sounds like i have a standard downpipe cat, and the box in the centre section.
hopefully if i just fit the downpipe and centre section, it should be enough to pass the emissions. it'll be a fair bit quieter too....

If you fit the down pipe and the small section that connects the down pipe to middle section thats enough to pass the mot,you dont need the centre section as theres no catt in that anyway

wickiiiiiiiiiiiiiid! so basically if i fit everything from the turbo to the tapered gasket joint then i'll be ok? hopefully the gasket on the turbo will handle being disturbed as i don't have a spare.

when does your mot run out? if you stick it in before your current runs out, and it fails you have time to sort it, if it has a sport cat and passes, you have your mot!! y have the hassle of fitting cats if you dont need to! especially if you dont know whats fitted currently.

I reckon so I'd avoid taking it to main dealer as I paid £100 to swap back box and center section when I sold one of my old cars.

Good luck with that anyway, and for the MOT - mines due soon

hopefully it'll be all good foz, i'm handy with the spanners so other than a few hours under the car it'll cost me nothing to change it over.
race dynamix have remapped it with all the cats out so god knows what it'll run like with them back in!!!!
my neighbours certainly won't miss the 5am boxer burble tho!

r1c, my car has full decat exhaust so i know it'll fail unless i fit the old exhaust. nice idea though.
