Hi all,

Just bought my first Scooby - WR1 #396.

absolutely love it! I have a tech question though...

Didn't realise when I first bought it, as was being cautious. but now, I have noticed a little flaw in its performance.

When I put my foot down, it pulls really good and hard. however, when I get to around 6k revs, it seems to stutter - almost like a backfire.

Now, sometimes it does it only once or twice, and then carries on up to where ever i decide to shift, but most of the time, it just hesitates and stutters, like its hitting the rev limiter, around 6k revs.

Has anyone else had a problem like this at all? I know its hard asking for a diagnosis online, but I have described the issue as best I can. I was thinking it could just be a simple sensor / ECU problem, as below 5k revs it is sweet as a nut. However, any help on this matter would be largely appreciated.

Cheers,

Loco

Having had this problem on my Spec C it sounds like the Neutral position switch, you need a dealer to diagnose on the road or rolling road but its not expensive (70 ish quid plus vat), but they can check with a select monitor.
Should add where abouts are you in the uk?

Tony

Thanks for that.

Rather glad it doesnt sound expensive

Apart from that small issue, the car is lovely. 56k on the clock, so below average. Body is immaculate. And completely standard. Dead chuffed with it.

I live near Sleaford in Lincolnshire. its good as there is a Scooby Dealer down the road I can take her to, and Scooby World is just down the road in Loughborough. Anyone live round here that could recommend other good specialists they have used?

Ok, so car has been in to subaru today. they fiddled and ran diagnostics for 5hrs, only to turn round and say they couldnt find a fault! so i took the guy out in the car and showed him the problem. after more tinkering, still no fault found on diagnostics.

So they reckon it can be either one of a few things: a split boost lead somewhere, or, more likely, an overfuelling injector. however, they reckon it is gonna be about 4hrs labour to get down to the injectors, and rebuild afterwards. does this sound about right?

They were really good when I left though. Although the car was with them for around 5hrs, they only charged me 1 hrs labour + diagnostic costs, which was only £70

Its gotta go back in at a later date to be pulled apart. I know this is kind of a repost, but has anyone else come across this problem before?

at least they say its not serious or dangerous, because if it was, it would have shown on diagnostic or light on dash.

cheers

Welcome Loco.

****** about under load could be some thing as simple as plugs. Treat her to a new set and see what that gives you.

Try Carnetix in Melton Mowbray. Can't recommend them highly enough.

BTW: the first time mine had new plugs, it developed a similar sort of misfire.

Turned out to be one of the plug leads damaged when changing the plugs.

No, i would think probably not then.

Wouldn't hurt to pull them and check their condition and gaps.

I thought on the new age diagnostics it would show a miss, whether it be a plug or an injector. Strange they where unable to identify it for you.

I would be checking/re-checking plug leads, electrical connections to injectors etc. As if it where a sensor they would surely of picked it up.

Is it possible that my car could have been remapped in the past to accomodate new mods, then the mods taken off before sale, and the ecu not changed back? having spoke to subaru dealer just now about this, they have confirmed they have no way of checking if software has been updated by ECUtek, for example.

Cheers

Yes, it is possible and he is correct re the software.

You could try the previous keeper, failing that a ECUTEK dealer would be able to tell you. http://www.ecutek.com/map/

car is going to scoobyworld next week now. for £50 they will rolling road and check to see if it has been ECUtek'd or any other remap.

The guy who had it before me only owned it for 2 months. I am starting to possibly see why...

That is the best idea i have seen on here for some time. More new owners should take that approach.
