Default 96 uk turbo-1 or 2 cats?

ive got an early uk turbo, just failed its mot on co2 levels, mot tester suspects the cat nearest turbo is hollow after someones decatted it,he thought it had a second one in the middle, however i rang an impreza breakers i know that specialises in breaking turbos to chase a secondhand cat up for it and i asked about the second one but he stated the uk ones have a resonator box in middle, not the second cat,he thought only the imports with onboard obd have second one along with the 2nd lambda[mine has one lambda and doesnt have obd].
is this right?

Always thought they had 2 cats. My old MY00 certainly did (originally ). Maybe for earlier models it was just the one, but seems odd??

Both my MY97 UK cars had downpipe cats and centre section cats. It is common to remove the centre section cat and replace with resonator (which looks identical). Done this with both of mine and they scrape thru emissions as long as they are tested immediately after a good thrash "testing the brakes with the accelerometer guv"
