Default problem with lights!!

ive just got myself a 97 n/a impreza. i went to turn on my lights tonight and they didnt come on nor did my dash lights. after fidling with the stalk i realised that the button you turn to operate the lights can slide right off. if i twist it about i can get my headlights to come on but no rear lights or dash lights. my clock is also unlit. my rear fog lights work so im needing to use them at the moment till i sort this. im assuming the best place to start would be to replace the stalk?

thanks in advance

Yes, stalk replace.

You can get them off e-bay, they usually come as a full set, left and right stalks, just make sure that what you are buying is the same as what you have:

To be sure: UK cars:- lights/indicators on the LEFT, wipers etc on the RIGHT.

JDM cars, iirc, the opposite and they are NOT interchangeable at least, not easily.

my light stalk is on the right. i had a little look inside and noticed 2 wires have been hard wired from it. dont know were they go though. mabey somebody has tried to install jdm ones. i read somewhere that 97 impreza sports have lights on the right side to.
