Hydra Nemesis 2.5 ECU - Your Thoughts Please
As above really, are they a good ECU?
They seem to have plenty of good features such as active knock control, anti lag, launch control and multiple maps.

Overall function are good, but i would you ask here Simon@JGM or Duncan@Race Dynamix about this...

So that side of things I would leave to an expert and they can have the headaches.

I have spoken to one mapper albeit he specialises in Evo's, and he has said they can be a bit of a pig to get the cold start sorted and he prefers to map them first thing in the morning, when cold in order to try and alleviate the problem from the off.

The Hydra is rumoured to be a very capable ecu, but a dogs breakfast to map. I would always choose the mapper before choosing the ecu as they wont thank you for giving them something poor to work with.
As for the SimTek, it doesn't have any cold start issues. As with any ecu, it is only as good as the person who maps it. A few complaints of poor starting or poor idling out of over 1000 units sold doesn't sound like a bad percentage to me.

I was going to buy one of these for my wagon last year. But due to cost I researched about on it. I came to the conclusion NOT to get one. Read lots of not so good things about them.

The only mapper who has mapped my 3 Impreza's is Bob Rawle, I have contacted Bob but I'm sure he's away on Holiday at the moment. I don't think that he would thank me either for presenting him with a headache. I first used Bob on a group buy on here and he is not too far away from me in Swindon. It would be nice if there was a reputable mapper in South Wales so we all have to head over the border into the land of the devil.
As for my comment about the Simtek cold start 'issue' I was only referring to the threads that I have read on here, you are right though the skill of the person mapping the car can make the difference.
I've read lots of good comments and they seem to be very popular with the Evo scene, do you have any links to any of the information you looked at?

Just tried to find the threads off impreza.org where i posted about these but i cant find them,
I had also heard that the Hydra is a good feature packed ECU but as you say it is a bit of pig to set up properly.

Never had a problem mapping the Hydra, excellent ecu with lots of capabilities. The only cold start problem ive had was a scoob, this was due to a inferior battery, the hydra on a scoob needs a high CCA battery. Evos that i have mapped on hydra start just as well as stock if not better. Its all about preference and what you are used to mapping, imo the hydra is very understated ecu....

Well I have a Hydra unit on the way, I did a little more research on some of the US sites and they seem to rate the Hydra highly.
The one feature that really swung it for me is the knock control which the Simtek unit doesn't have at present.
I have been in touch with Bob Rawle and he is happy to map the Hydra so I'll post up how we get on.
