Need a new engine and ive been offered one out of a 1995 Wagon Wrx which is the same year as mine is this the exact same engine??? Thanks in advance.

 

i would think they are but i dont have enough experience to know
maybe check the ECU's of both cars. if they are the same then i would be inclined to think the engines could be swapped without too many problems.
wait n see what other say before you make any decisions though

 

wrx wagons are all 215ishbhp but wrx cars are 260ishbhp as they run td05 where as wagons run td04s so ecus will be different as far as i know

 

Engines are the same just different turbos and ecu.

 

yeah block and heads and just put all you bits etc on it

 

+1 1995 wagon 220 ps 1995 saloon 260 ps, 3b ecu in wagon z4 ecu in saloon ,td04 in wagon td05 in saloon .

 

yeah alot of people assume wrx wagon is higher power like the cars but they aint all classic wagons are same bhp except sti's

 

The early wagons were all 220ps, however the my97 came with 240ps, then the sti's came with 280ps

 

the wrx wagon had a slightly different comp ratio according to what i read on here years ago, but it will run fine in a saloon car with a td05 and saloon ecu. i know becuase i ran td05 and z4 ecu in my wrx wagon years ago with no problems.

 

will it still run the same power though or will it be slower guys? thanks for all the quick replys

 

my wrx wagon engine made 260.9bhp with td05, z4 ecu, full decat, ported headers and optimax, that was after a api rebuild too. i was a tad dissapointed at the time as i hoped the decat was gonna release more power when in fact i only made standard power (z4 ecu = 260ps). i put it down to the lower comp ratio

 

so everything is the same just need to swap my ecu and td05 over???

wagon wrx engines are exactly the same as the saloon except for obviously the turbo and ecu, if as you say they had different compression ratio then it would be higher not lower to get the most out the smaller tdo4.
