2004 WRX Impreza - First Time Owner
Hi There,
We bought our first scooby in July 2010 from a dealer here in South Africa (2004 WRX Silver Impreza 2 L) We were very excited to own our first scooby! It had +- 144 000 km on the clock with full service history. We were assured that it was mechanically in good nick - with them having done the six star pre-service inspection on the car.
She drives like a dream, however a month later she started smoking badly and smelling - turns out the cv boot had to be replaced. They replaced this at no cost.
6 months later we took her in for her 150 000 km service and now its turned out an absolute nightmare!!! We have only had the car 7 months and have only put about 6000 km on the clock since we bought her.
They told us the front brake discs are cracked and had to be replaced. They admitted that they "scimmed" the discs instead of replacing them and so they would replace these at no cost. This was supposed to be checked on the pre-inspection service and was not. They apparently cannot find the paper proving they did the six star pre-service inspection, but they assure us it was done.
They also say the car is making a knocking sound - when we enquired about this the first time we took the car in (a month after we bought it) we were told this is how a subaru engine sounds - its a boxer motor.
Now it turns out they say the knocking sound is from the rings losing rigidity due to "overheating" (rings collapsed). They quoted to replace the whole engine block, including pistons, rings, bearings, overhaul of cylinder heads, replace oil pump, replace all water pipes, carry out pressure test of cooling system, etc over R41 000.00!!!! By the way, since we've had the car it has never overheated.
My question is this: If they did the six star pre-service inspection like they said they did - surely these problems would have been picked up BEFORE we bought the car?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
