Default gearbox?

I have a 2000 turbo wagon (x reg) and lately i've heard noises when i put the clutch in to change gears not sure how do describe it. Also when i'm slowing down using the box there a grounchin kinda noise coming from it. I went to the garage where i bought the car from and they have said that imprezas have noisey gearbox? Is this true or is there something wrong which there trying to avoid fixing?

No. The gearboxes are not noisey in standard format unless they have a fault.

You would only expect to hear noises from your box if you have an aftermarket straight cut gearkit fitted or you have a competition dog box.

Have you checked the oil level in the gearbox?
