Default Vibration through steering wheel?

I have noticed lately that I am getting vibration through the steering wheel problem is it is not there constantly.
It has happened a few times now when cruising at 60 it comes in and will remian there as you slow down/speed up then it will stop doing it there doesn't seem to be anything I am doing at the time that cuases it to come or go.
I am trying to suss out what may be the cause? There may be a hint of noise as if the wheel bearing has gone, but I wouldn't have thought this would cause vibration?
Also I don't know whether this is related but at low speed I can also occasionally get a scraping/grinding noise as if something is rubbing the tarmac but again on inspection underneath the car I can't see anything that is?
If anyone has had similar symptoms or could shed a bit of light prior to me stickng it in tha garage tomorrow it would be appreciated. I need to get all these niggling issues sorted prior to mapping at the end of the month.
