Default 1998 turbo 2000

Would i be right in that my 1998 2000 turbo can't be remapped if it still has the standard ecu? and if thats right would i just need an ecu of a 99 onwards model?

The reason i ask is that i have a pipercross filter and different exhaust from cat back, so someone advised getting it mapped or going back to original parts(filter and dump valve).

Have a alook round for used ecu's, mate. Lots of people put LINK on those cars, which did the job but are now old technology. You could turn one up for a couple of hundred £, then start your tuning.

Mine STILL uses a LINK at 400+ bhp.

I assume you have already done the brakes?

No mate i aint done anything yet....more for future reference as i have only had it a couple of weeks so i'm just trying to get some info on it.

I have now read that late 1998 ones can be mapped and mines a late 1998.How would i know for sure if it can or can't be done?

MY97/98 cannot be mapped

MY99 on can be mapped

Ignore the aftermarket filter, notice the position of the coil pack, offset to nearside on the mappable car.

A popular and cost effective option for the MY97 cars is to fit a Prodrive ECU and associated parts for a small power gain between 20 and 40 hp, with a noticeable lump of torque thrown in. Also get a nice burble from the exhaust but not antisocial. Only downside is that you can currently run your car on 95ron but Prodrive recommend 97ron minimum with their ECU fitted.

Parts required are
ECU (with Immobiliser box and transponders) £250
decat centre section £70
Prodrive back box £100
silicone Y pipe £50
panel filter £30

Budget about £750 for this and 4pot calipers/discs (if you have 16 inch wheels) to make a nice daily driver. Another £100 for vented rear discs/calipers if you have a tendency to push it a bit. And remove the disc shields to aid cooling, does promote disc wear in the winter tho.

All prices ebay/scoobynet second hand of course.

A new set of standard shox from Camskill will set you £250 and transform the handling if our suspension is tired. Get the geometry set up standard on the rear, maximum allowed negative camber on the front with a touch of toe in.

For the last five years mate FPMSL don't believe it will happen now, most of the 97/98 cars have already been broken.
