Default 98 jdm typer overheating help

hey guys

today i have noticed that my car was over heating, on the motorway the car was fine as soon as i entered the city i noticed that the heating had stoped giving hot air then i noticed that the temp went up i parked the car imidiatly and check the bottom pipe on the rad ( where the thermostat is) and that pipe was cold i waited until the car cooled down then started to drive again and the temp went up then when the heating started giving hot air again the temp went down so i kept the heating ON and the temp didnt go up until i slow down.

i think it could be the thermostast sticking and not letting the water circulate any comments welcome.

It could be, then again it could also be the radiator, head gasket failure, airblock if the coolant has been changed very recently, fans not running etc.
