Default 380 bhp from my classic sti??

Hello everyone, i have been looking on this site now for about 8 months, (since i got rid of the bm and saw the light) and have found this site VERY helpful!! i have a 93 jap sti, (i know you dont like versions!!) i have a fmic ready to fit and i have the fueling mods and apexi fc commander ecu.....

so my question is this, what is the standard turbo fitted to my impreza?? am i right in saying early impreza's have bigger turbos and 380 injectors? and how much power can i get from it, i really want between 350 and 380. is this dooable? and sorry but one last thing, will the td05 be needed?

your standard turbo is a tdo5 and your standard injectors are 380's the injectors are no good for over 300.

As above.

You'd need to swap to 550cc side feed injectors (you got them?) and a TD05H 18g, or SC38 Billet, turbo for that 350-380 bracket.

Need to fit a Walbro 255lph fuel pump (if you haven't already). And uprated MAP sensor - preferably the Apexi one with its bespoke harness that's designed to plug into the side of the PowerFC.

Decat d/p + decent system is a must. And NGK PFR7G plugs are advisable too.

No STI's made in 1993, it would have to be a 1994 car?
But I wouldnt push the engine over 330-350bhp if you want reliability, its 17+ years old and the internals on those cars were not exactly good, if you want to upgrade to take that sort of power then add 10k to what price you have now, you will need to replace pretty much everything as it will break, normally catastrophically

Sound advice , old engine and lots of power normally equals pop puff bang !

Well spotted (totally overlooked that ).

Although if a WRX saloon, it'd still have the TD05H 16g. As you know.

Did the very first STi have (nominally) forged pistons (can't recall)? Or did they not bother, and just give it 250PS by upped boost target (via ECU)?

Thanks for everyones feedback, i have 440 injectors and the 255 pump. I think i should lower my expectations with power, im now hoping for 345-355 is that dooable with my td05 16g or will i still need 18g? If so does anyone have one??

It'd be more the exception, rather than the rule, if you made that on a 16g. Expect 320-340 on a 16g.

Really need a 18g to be sure. Can be had from harvey, together with fully ported matched uppipe and headers (heatwrapped if required), to make the most of it. All the items can be had on an exchange basis too.

But you'll also need to change the 440s for 550s, for your 345-355bhp target...

to be fair thou as this car is so old you might just want to fitt what you got a tune it and see what you get as 320 bhp would be good and any more then that your engine and gear box is liable to go bang to make a classic good for a true 380 bhp you need a good gear box if not a six speed and there 2 grand and a forged engine or at least a descent new age bottom end short motor 550cc injectors big brakes and so on beside if you get near the 320 or a little more you be pleased with the performance dude

I agree.

He should fit all the bits he's already got and just get it mapped. It should make around 325+ (the 440s being the limiting factor). Will be a pleasing/satisfying drive...
