Pre-MY99 cars like yours have different connectors so it won't work.

Even MY99 and MY00's it would be pain to get it to work as a couple of wires need swapping. Then you'd need the same turbo etc and you'd still end up with something thats not been mapped specifically for your engine.

P1's were a MY99 ecu (they were classed as an MY00 car but were in fact MY99's), so unless you have one of those (and it wouldnt work anyway), its not going to work.
If as you have put down, you have a 97/98 spec car then all you can do is replace the ecu with an aftermarket one, not exactly cheap but your only option at the moment.

Try a Prodrive ECU. With the correct parts will bring your power from 216ish up to 240 to 260 depending on who's figures you believe. more importantly you get oodles more torque and it's much more fun to drive for about £500 all in.

good luck and have fun

As above , a prodrive ecu with Y pipe and a decent backbox and decat centre should see you increase from 208 bhp up to around 240+ bhp.

I think you were thinking about the MY 99/00 which had the stage 2 engines which had 215 bhp std , the ppp on these gave cars gave 245+ bhp.

That's what i did (plus a few other goodies like lightweight pulley etc.) and it's fun to drive!

Really worth the money but it's not too easy to find a PPP ECU MY97/98...
