Cool Modification Advice

Hey all, ive recently bought a 1995 subaru wrx import,

from what i can see the current mods are;

full stainless steel exhaust
its been lowered (not sure what make or height)
anti lag
flame-kit (bit chavvy for me ha)
18 inch rims with toyo proxis
dump valve
Boost gauge

with the sale I also got a front mount with all pipes + turbo timer, none fitted yet.

this is the first scooby ive owned and im just looking to spend some cash on it to improve performance, was considering a remap but id like to uprate a few things before the remap, what sort of things should i go for!? can spend anywhere from £300-£600 a month

reply's much appreciated.

Have a look at www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk, tells what mods to do and what bhp/torque you might achieve - he does not sell performance parts so unbiased advice.

Go back to a standard, or uprated RECIRCULATING dumpvalve before doing anything.
Your car will run better and use less fuel, plus the engine will last longer.

Only keep the uprated dumpvalve if it's a recirculating type. If a VTA type has been fitted, remove it and go back to standard.

An OE one is good to 400bhp.

means it either probably doesn't have the stock ecu or more likely doesn't have anti lag, do you get any over run boost or is there a switch anywhere for it ?

There's a switch, when on it idles about 500rpm over normal, if revved stationary loud pops and bangs out the exhaust, when driving it sounds like the turbo spools quicker

yeah simtek, wouldn't worry about changing the dump valve either, simtek is map based so wont cause running issues

it should indeed, i wouldn't got to crazy with mods tho if i were you, well if you want some reliability anyway. Keep it around the 300bhp mark and it 'should' be ok

thats a bonus ,having a simtek, what turbo have you got on it, i would consider going to vf35, can be had for less than 300 quid and shouldnt stress the engine too much - fingers crossed

The problem is youre gearbox, thats why the chaps are saying 300BHP, larger turbos also come in with a bit of a bang, and the excessive torque is addictive and kills the box after a while. you can push the engine to the top of the turbo flow , produces more heat, the FMIC will remove most of the heat, but again bag gos the box LOL, take is to an expert put it on the ramps amd look over it and see whats been changed. Brakes are a good idea !
