Default Wrapped headers

I was of the understanding that wrapping standard cast manifolds was something that you shouldn't do, as they will split. Well on other motors was always told not to.I thought it was only S/steel stuff you wrapped, but I seen some standard ported ones for sale on here that have been wrapped.

I understand the benefits of heat managment etc.As I have a wrapped downpipe, going to be wrapping the uppipe as well. But after seeing them was thinking of wrapping my non ported standard ones.
Can anyone shed some light on that?

How long did you run with them wrapped?? Ported headers would flow the gases quicker than standard plus wrapping them helps with gas flow so more heat generated there. I just dont want to waste on heat wrap to find that it will crack the headers. I am not bothered about the headers as i have to spare sets.

Isn't there heat shields on the standard headers anyway. I would have thought its only worth doing stainless ones but I'm no expert.
