Default 97 WRX engine into V5 or 6 Type R

What's required to put a '97 (prefacelift) WRX engine into a V5 or 6 (facelift) Type R?

Will the engine drop straight in, or are slightly different mounts needed?

Would the loom need swapping over taking into account prefacelift/facelift dashboards (mech and elec speedos etc)

Any other info would be much appreciated

If you mean the complete engine then no it wont go without a wiring change but if you are wanting to use just the short block with the v5/6 heads then no problem. All you will need is the correct thickness headgasket

Just to bring this one back up... Which versions of the Type R would the 97 WRX engine and running gear drop straight into? Versions 3 and 4?

Yes the long engine is compatible with v3 v4. Not sure on the ecu side of things as the valve train is very different between the wrx and the sti type r
