Default will these 2 engines fit

hi all not posted on here alot since signing up but ive a question that i hope someone could answer

i have a 98 sti version 4 and i have been offered from a guy who comes into where i work the complete engine inc turbo manifold interercooler loom ecu ect ect from a version 5 sti. he aquired the car and he thinks the engine is forged, is there a way to tell with out stripping it down?

allso could i just swap my v4 inlet ect onto the engine as i dnt want to be swapping looms ecu's ect.

one final question what would i expect to pay for this complete package, he says it was a good runner but then i would be paying my money and taking a chance.

incase anyone is wondering the engine in my sti v4 has popped a head gasket.

thanks in advance

John.

There is no way of telling if the STi V5 is forged without pulling it apart and checking what rods and pistons are fitted.

The STi Version 5 is a Phase 2 engine and your Version 4 inlet manifold will not fit the Phase 2 engine ( Phase 2 has off-set bolt hole pattern on the Inlet Manifold whereas the Version 4 has an Inline bolt hole pattern).
Without build reciepts from the STi Version 5,it would be a lottery if the engine is fit for use - why not replace the head gaskets on your STi Version 4 and throw in a set of big ends while the engine is out too.

ok that is a very good point thanks you.

it is worth noting that it does come with the loom ecu everything that is in the engine bay. do you know whats involved in the swap if i have everything needed.

the reason im keen is because ive been offered it at a very very good price so cheap infact its probly cheaper than the bill for new shells head gaskets and my engineer (engine tunner) to build up.

Don't even think about trying to adapt the V5 to the V4, it's not that easy.
