Some help & advise for a Newbie before I buy a Scoob!
Hi all!
In need of some help here. I am 36 years old and driving since I was 17 with full no claims and no points so insurance is ok for me.
I do around 150 miles a week, mostly town and B roads. I have 2 daughters and a large dog so have been looking at the wagon version.
I have seen them going for cheapish on Ebay and am tempted to buy one. Here come the questions!
My wage is not the best so....
A UK 1997 Scoob 2000 Turbo Wagon.
What is an average MPG for one of these with easy town driving but a bit of a blast on the B roads?
Also parts.....Do they cost the earth to buy or are there specialist places I could go?
Upkeep wise.... How easy are they to work on, say an oil change and filter with plugs?
And last!! What are the UK 2000 Turbo Wagon's like performance wise? I have owned hot hatches before.....Clio Williams, 306 GTI-6, 205 GTI 1.9's, Astra GTE 16v etc.

I get 22mpg round town in my modified subaru. The most on a run was 32. Its all down to how you drive it and what fuel you use.
Parts are fairly cheap, lots of subarus being broke so parts aren't an issue.
Maintenance wise, they're easier to work on than people think. Plug change is a little awkward due to space but easily done in an hour.
I'm sure you'll be happy with the performance, but you'll soon get the bug for more power.

If insurance isn't a problem i would look at a jdm version, you get more for your money. Only downside i you need to use super unleaded in them, but to be honest i wouldn't run a uk turbo on anything less.

With the prices of petrol these days How much does it take to fill one from empty to full and how many miles can you get from a full tank?
I have read that the UK Scoob's can do 0-60 in just over 6 seconds and on to a top speed of 145mph?

I don't brim the tank anymore, but i would imagine it would cost about £80.00 to fill completely depending on your fuel cost etc...
But £40.00 gets me just under half a tank and will get me about 160 miles with a mixture of roads and driving.

My local Shell garage is selling V-Power (99 RON) at about 142.9p per litre, so a fill up of 47.5 litres rinses you of a ludicrous c.£68!!!
So by that rationale, the UKDM Turbo 2000 AWD's 60 litre tank would cost c.£82 to fill with 57.5 litres!!!
0-60mph: 5.6 (or 5.7?) secs
Vmax: 137mph (from memory). Or it might be 143mph lol.
I'll confirm later on tonight....

hi,
my import classic saloon with its 50ltr tank takes about 60-70 quids worth and i get around 230-270 miles a tank. 20k mile in 12mth saw me spend 7k on fuel.

its defo a 'smiles per gallon' thing, my car is going to be around for a while, lol.

performance wise it'll be like an F1 car compared to vintage hot hatches. Like you I was brought up on a diet of renault clio 16vs and peugeot 309 gtis before I discovered the joys of turbos and four wheel drive.
I love wagons too. My first impreza was a 98 uk spec wagon that I drove in standard tune for a year or so and loved it. It never missed a beat even when tuned to 290bhp.
Mileage shouldnt be an issue as long as it been looked after and serviced regularly.
Theres loads out there so you can afford to be choosy. Pick as standard a one as you can unless the seller can provide lots of info on the mods done to it and by whom.

In terms of the top speed, the gearbox will run out at 144mph but I think it runs out of power at 142mph. The 0-60 tims should be 6.2 secs.
