Default oil pressure

i have recently fitted an oil pressure gauge to my 95 classic. have no mods other than sti panel filter, standard 260ps.

on warm idle it sits at about 22psi/1.5bar, does this sound about right.

going out for a run now as i cant remember what psi is at when tootling along at 60, i think its about 80-90.

cheers chaps

engine is on 131k but was in bits to have a new crank, std oil pump, timing belt, piston rings and so many gaskets/seals its not funny at 95k

oil is millers 10w40 fully

dont know if this helps but my defi guage on warm idle reads about 2.0 - 2.1 and when moving or driving say on the motorway it sits at about 5.0

It will depend on many things, not least of which are age of engine, age of the oil and the grade of oil in use.

to give you an example, mine was running Motul fully synth. I's done around 4000 miles since a fully forgted rebuild. Oil pressure was 6.6 bar cold, 5.6 bar hot, 2 bar hot tickover.

Yesterday it had an oil change and was filled with some stuff called Royal Purple. It now runs 8 bar cold, 7 bar hot and 2.6 bar hot tickover.

FYI, 1 bar is roughly 14psi.

Mine sits at roughly 70 psi on idle, 90 psi with normal driving and a bit more hard driving.

4.8 bar at idle? is that an uprated oil pump? i take it that is warm idle?

Im not sure im with ya, you have less oil pressure when cold? thats unusual in my experience, still as long as its there thats the main thing

Yea just re-read it, lol.
I'll take a look later and see where it is. Deffo 90 when driving and about 110 on heavy throttle.

cheers chaps,
have been out to check,

cold start 80-82psi(5.51bar)
warm idle 22psi(1.51 bar)
60 mph in 5th, just shy of 3k, just over 73psi(5.03 bar)

i dont think im far off, just dont recall seeing anyone else in the 1 bar region. engine ticks like a swiss watch, so cant complain.

Cold - 6bar idel, 6.5bar running (never reved high at this temp anyway.)
Warm - 2bar idel, 5.5bar(ish) running, peaks at 7.2bar when pushed.

Oil is Millers CFS 10w60.

Idel revs would have quite an effect too, mine idels at 500rpm(ish) if it was 750rpm it would be 3bar warm idel.

are all these gauges calibrated within half a bar? the difference of .5 bar really doesnt matter, the problem lies when the pressure is outside its normal zone. Use the gauge as a good reference, not as the be all and end all of exact oil pressure.

My 95 wrx is 15psi warm idle and has been for the last two years since i fitted it,
I use millers cfs 10/50.
Its an auto engine and does not have the modine oil cooler but not sure if that would make a difference to the pressure.

Matty are you sure thoses figures are right mate as over 4 bar at hot idle is to high and would indicate something is wrong with your oil pump/engine for it to be so high surely?!

That's what the gauge reads buddy.
I'm now thinking that powerstation fitted an updated oil pump when they built the engine.
It's a JDM STI 9 spec C engine covered roughly 20K and using Millers 10/40 fully synthetic oil. Last oil change was about 500 miles ago

Was mapped by Paul at ZEN just a couple of months ago with no issues. Maybe my gauge is playing up. I'll get another at the weekend and check I think.

Mine has a uprated pump and only has 2.5-3 bar or there abouts at 90'c oil temp matt,I have never heard or seen one running over 3 bar at fully hot running temp

I wouldn't have thought it's major matt, just the gauge or sender, mine started to read funny about a month back so replaced the sender and all's well now.
Defo a good idea to find out though mate

Yea your probably right fella. Car runs sweet as a nut and Paul didn't pick up on anything (we all know pauls knowledge) when he was mapping it.
It was only a couple of weeks ago I was talking up prosport gauges, well that's blown up in my face, lol.
