uk turbo 2000 bhp figures
Hi all,
looking at buying a uk turbo 2000, what power can be expected from this engine with standard internals ?.
i'd start with the basics, exhaust, de-cat, good air filter then remap then maybe FMIC & better turbo & fuel pump.
dont want to go too mad this time as i lost a fortune on my last 'baby' so ill probably use 2nd hand parts.
any help greatly received

You will not need a FMIC until you have exhausted an STI top mount at 400bhp.
Weak link above 350 bhp is the gearbox. Some5 speeds take it, others don't. Decat, remap, VF35 or similar and bigger injectors should see a reliable 300bhp

thanks for the replys, am i right in thinking i can just nhave the standard ecu mapped ? or do i need a simtec or simular ?
300 - 350 should be fine , i dont do track days purely for grin factor !

You'll need to buy an aftermarket ECU for that year to be able to get it mapped. My suggestion would be either an Apexi second hand, or a Simtek. Apexi is the budget concious decision but the Simtek ECU really is 'the don'.

Nice web site Graham i had a little read ( wife goin mad, ready for bed) so cant read through, looks like you cant remap a 's' reg 98 anyway requires new ecu ? what year car do you reccomend ? only i dint plan on buying a new ecu aswell .

+1 for the above ,the MY 99 was launched in september 1998 and had the stage 2 engine . Well worth checking to see if your ecu has E3 stamped on it ,if it does then it can be remapped via ecutec software.

What would be safe power limit on stock internals in Impreza 00?
I know gear box should be good for around 330.....would the engine take that?
VF35 with all supporting mods is my plan.

I am running 330bhp on MY2000 uk wagon and car is fine. I am probably close to the limit of my turbo & injectors , but with a 50%+ increase over the std car,all seems to be running fine at the present moment . Some people have run 400+ bhp on std internals, but your gearbox will let go way before that , but 330 should be fine imho.

I will run uprated 5 speed and 550ccs probably.
Great to hear that 330/330 will be fine since i dont wanna blow stuff up cause then i will go forged and that means uprated 5 speed will have to be replaced with 6 speed.......which means my GF will kick my *** for spending to much on the car,lol.

To put a technical spin on this 'will my car break at this bhp', you need to look at the factor of safety designed into the transmission by Subaru, the fatigue life of the current components along with the type of use it's had and then you might be able to come up with a number that an engineer would call within spec.
So in short you cannot put a figure on when or how a component will fail. You just need to remain aware that asking your gearbox and engine for 30%+ more power is likely to end in a failure at some point sooner than before.
On the other hand, lots run around 300-330 with modest reliability.

As above. It could break if you upped the power by 50bhp or it could break if you leave it standard. This is life.
My car had 313/300 and never broke a thing in 20k miles - i was always prepared however, if the worst did happen.
