Default Lost Forester Keys

Hi Guys,

I purchased a 1999 Jap import Forester s/tb last week, but stupidly have lost the one and only key I had for it!

The car was fitted with a laserline alarm/immobiliser from new, and I still have the fobs for this which work to lock/unlock the car, strangely the key that I have lost also had lock and unlock buttons on the key which worked, therefore I am unsure if the key was 'coded' to the car?

Basically I am looking for the most cost effective solution to get a replacement key for the car, or will it be a case of all new locks etc?

Advice is very much appreciated,
John

Hi macmac,

Thanks for your help, ill pickup a couple of key housings from ebay with blank blades and do as you advise, dont think I need the central locking key, as works from my alarm fobs and still have two of those! is the door lock barrell hard to remove?

Thanks again,
John

Being an import it shouldn't have the transponder in the key.
There is a lock set for sale on here, non transponder type, for around 60 quid I think, so its cheap, but removing the old barrell without a key will be hard.

EDIT, didn't read any previous posts, so I've basically repeated what others have said

I managed to lose the key alone because as mentioned the key has lock/unlock buttons, and the fob has to be pressed once to disable the immobiliser after the ignition is turned on, in order to start the car, therefore I kept the immobiliser fob hidden in centre console, also for some strange reason this specific laserline fob doesnt have any way of attaching to a key ring, that or it has broken off over the years!
