Well a 1996 could be a MY97 if it was first manufactured 1st from Sep 1996 - in which case it'll have a VF24 or VF23.

But the odds are that it's a MY96 car, and therefore, as above, have a TD05H 16g - I'm assuming it's a saloon?

Does your engine have a central coilpack on the inlet manifold with 'normal' HT leads... Or individual coilpacks over the plugs?

In that case you do indeed have the phase 1 MY96 WRX.

So:-

Saloon = TD05H 16g
Wagon = TD04L 13g

(BTW, the "Version" / "Version II" / "Version III" / "Version IV" / "Version V" / "Version VI" was officially given to the STi variants only.)

Not necessarily:-

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JDM Phase 1

MY93-96 WRX saloon = TD05

MY93-96 STi saloon + wagon = TD05

MY93-96 WRX wagon = TD04

(all top entry)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JDM Phase 1.5

MY97/98 WRX = VF24

MY97/98 STi = VF23

...These could be vice versa, not sure. But normally, the STi got the bigger turbo of the two. In practice, I expect Subaru just fitted what was to hand in the parts bin at the time!

(all front entry)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JDM Phase 2

MY99/00 WRX = VF29

MY99/00 STi = VF28

(all front entry)

Yeah, probably. I did see that on a website, etc.

Bit confusing re. the MY97/98 and their VF22/23/24 offerings....
