wrx vs sti
Hi Guys & girls
After having fords for the last ten years i am a novice to subaru's im getting a wrx Bug eye in three weeks time which im really looking forward to (still keeping the focus though )
Just wanted to know what the main engine differences are between the wrx and sti? is it just stronger internals the sti has and bigger turbo?
is there any main like common faults with subaru's in general?
any information would be so great
i did try to find a technical guide on the site about the wrx's and sti's but could not find any .......

Not sure on the differences between the two but a common fault in alot of scoobies is the rear shocks. Listen out for any type of knocking when pulling away and at lower speeds over bumpy roads

Basically its like chalk and cheese, the wrx and the sti are totally different cars, both mechanically and for driving, but try both though I think the STI may sway you

I bought my wrx bugeye almost a year ago, spent a fortune on it and now its running 309 bhp and i wish now i had bought the sti, but you live and learn,
although you will be very happy with it but you will spend ££££ getting it to run somewhere near the power of the sti, then there is brakes, suspension etc etc....

It would be like choosing an EVO GSR over and EVO RS
Put it this way no STI has ever come close to my WRX, even when it was in standard tune. I'm talking mostly classic STI's with 1 driver whilst I had a passenger.
The STI is far heavier with a silly track orientated short ratio box. Only problem with the WRX is Subaru specialist garages will treat it like ****.
I am saying all this tongue in cheek mind you!

I bought my first Impreza (WRX) not knowing all this, I then drove an STi and ... well put it this way ... I now own an STi
Obviously all of the above is based on standard cars, you can throw money at a WRX till you are blue in the face .....
And don't even ask what the differences are between UK and JDM, I haven't got a spare can of worms

this wrx sti thing is true but then if you buy a 1998-2000 wrx it the same almost as the sti same power the only thing that it does not have is the same suspension and some fancy writing saying sti lol but then if your buying a new age i would say by the sti your regret it if you dont

Hey guys thanks for the info, I probably will eventually buy an Sti at a later date when I have the funds maybe in a years time, I take it the wrx is still a nice fast nippy car tho compared to most on the road, I have driven my friends hawkeye Sti with 371 bhp and that was very quick, but speed at this time is not what I want yet, I want something that sounds nice, looks the part and will do me for a year untill I can put some serious money into something alot faster
