Default Which BOV/Dump Valve

Apologies if this has been covered a thousands times but i'm in need of a quick answer as i'm between purchasing two cars tomorrow, one with stock BOV and the other with an after market type (not sure it its recirculating or not).

I have done alot of reading around the BOV types and alot of literature states that the non recirculating BOV's are bad for the WRX's, is this the case and how would I know if its a recirc type or not?

An early answer would be much appreciated. Cheers, Shaun

OEM recirc looks like this

Edit: Just realised that this is completely unhelpful as it wasn't what you asked. Look for vents on the side of the BOV - obviously recirc won't have any

E.g. Bailey's VTA

Bailey's recirc

So how can you tell if an aftermarket is a recirc or not and are the non recirc actually bad for the engine as many suggest?

General SN consensus on VTA is that they're bad and chavvy, but I'm staying out of that argument The search facility is your friend

Personally I run without a dumpvalve

lol, yeah there needs to be a balance - not partic. worried if its perceived as chavvy for now as long as they dont damage the enginer (if its a VTA thats currently fitted). Cheers

also vta will make a loud tshh sound when coming off throttle.

re circ makes a small sound but a vta is way louder.

I think it may have a VTA fitted then, I will check tomorrow. Are there any engine issues/problems associated with VTA type instead of recirc's?

I have recently fitted the GFB Respons dumpvalve and I am very happy with it. It allows me to run recirculating when I want peace and quiet, very loud for serious hooning or anywhere in between. And no loss of boost either like I was getting from the standard one.
Best quality dumpvalve I have seen after I compared it to a few other makes. Tim at Scoobyparts had them in stock at a reasonable price.
