Bought today went bang this evening!!! Turbo???
I'll start with hi guys! Well bought a 99 reg turbo 2000 this afternoon, preformed really well on test drives n driving back home, went to the petrol station this evening to fill her up. Got approximately 5 miles up the road n well I think the turbo has popped alot of oil round the turbo and smoking like a chain smoker! Engine runs fine but obviously no boost, the car was completely standard n unfettled, hence the purchase! Does this sound like a turbo blown if the engine still ticked over?? Dump the remainder of the oil on the floor wen I pulled over??
Now looking for a turbo I'm guessing?? Any help is appreciated and I guess the standard td04 wud be the best option/ cheapest if this is the problem
Many thanks a slighty disgruntled stuart

Your turbo is likely blown if you're getting smoke out of the exhaust. However a blown turbo will leak oil internally i.e. into the exhaust or intercooler and not externally. You must have split an oil line as well for the oil to leak around the turbo in the engine bay.
I hope you're keeping a close eye on the oil levels as you try to find the root cause of the issue.

Havent had a chance to inspect properly yet, and seller is help with repair costs which is very decent of him, think he was gutted wen I text him as it was his pride n joy, everythings pointing to the turbo popping exhaust side

wount cost much if your good with a set of spanners,
another td04 cheap, couple gaskets and o-rings and away you go. you need to make sure the fins are intact and it hasnt **** itself and now finding there way to your pistons!
Should be fine tho. i had a turbo go on my old motor and just replaced it and all good.

Skem55, good point from scooby_kid - don't forget gaskets.
When up graded my turbo Mark at Lateral sorted all the gaskets out. The up-pipe gasket can be a nightmare to source. Give him a ring mate, if he's got them he'll get them out quick

As said when turbos fail they dump their oil internaly so u get smoke out of the exhaust.Sounds like you had the oil feed pipe for the turbo split .If it no longer boosts it might have siezed due to oil starvation.Let us know the outcome.

Yea im hazarding my bets on a oil starved turbo failure due to defect oil feed pipe hence uprating as much as possible in and around the replacement unit, hopefully will find intact fins once turbo is off, n then possible rebuild on old unit for spare fingers crossed of course, teach me for buying a car whilst moving house lol

Are you sure none of the oil has fond its way down the plug channels and fouling the leads/plugs etc, get em out, give em a clean, make sure they are gapped properly and bang em back n and try again, hope you get it sorted asap mate, not a great start to scoob ownership

Push the end of a screwdriver down to see if there is any oil round the plug. If so clean it out with some de-greaser and let it dry. Then put the lead back on and try it. Go for the easy things first.
