Default how to tune a uk 1997 turbo 2000 wagon

Hi guys new on here just bought my first scooby a uk 1997 t2000 wagon.
a bit of advice if possible. i have been told that you cannot map the ecu on a uk version of my car. does any one know if this is true and what to do instead or is there a way around this. could i uprate the turbo and cams and other bits without getting it mapped or does it need to be mapped to do this. any info would be much appreciated phil

enduring solutions are about to release a board for the 97-98 cars or maybe already have by now. do a google search for esl live mapping and check it out. basically a motherboard gets soldered onto ur origional ecu so the numbers can be changed and it can be mapped like an power fc, ecutek etc. ive got a my96 and im getting mine fitted an mapped in a few weeks.

when tuning a car it depends on ur budget to you can get really carried away because there is always something else you can do work out what power you want and what you want to spend make a list of parts and go from there thats what i did anyways lol

yeah m8 its been released now. does mafless and apparently can run 2 maps as well. according to andy from esl launch control and anti lag could be a possibility which can be added through software at some point and might also be available for my96 esl boards too as its backwards compatible he reckons

Re-mapping is the obvious first step. My advice would be to keep it "sensible" unless you want to change clutches and big end bearings at shorter than usual intervals.

But don't get it done till you've got a decent up-pipe fitted (and preferably full decat system) and also an STi intercooler. You can mess about with air filters if you want but re-map, exhaust and intercooler will get you 90% of what's available safely.

The MY97/98 cannot be mapped. Swapping to a mappable ecu can be done but is expensive. The much promised ESL board has been on the way for many years and we are board of waiting for it. By the time it arrives most MY97 cars will have been scrapped. For serious power better option is the later MY99/00 car with it's mappable ecu and upgraded brakes.

Cheap option on the MY97/98 is the Prodrive ecu from the same model year but even that is not a straight swap. The Prodrive ecu was supplied as part of a package commonly known as PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack) and consisted of;

The ECU obviously
Decat centre section
Prodrive back box
Silicone intercooler Y pipe
Panel air filter
Mintex brake pads

All of the above are required to match the mapping of the ecu (except the brake pads obviously)

Have done the above twice resulting in a much more driveable car with increase in power from 205 to around 240 or so hp (and a larger increase in torque lower down the rev range), and a car which will still pass MOT emission tests.

Other things that make the car feel quicker are listed here https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...p-classic.html

Final tip. If you choose to aquire a Prodrive ensure it comes with it's matching immobiliser found behind the dash on the drivers side, along with the transponder from the donor vehicle's key. Without the above the vehicle will start but then cut out after 10 seconds.

No. It don't matter if it's JDM or UK, the MY97/98 can't be 'got at' (currently).

But even if it could, the map is not appropriate, as it's based on serving a VF22 or 23 turbo - whereas your car has an altogether smaller TD04L. So the fuelling/timing/and boost target would all be out.
