Forged internals, or it'll all go **** up very quickly.
At least 550s and MD321H to get a genuine 400. Not many 20G turbos seem to make it.
FMIC, FPR, ECU that can go Mafless as your Maf wont cope.
Thats probably not all of it.

Mine -
JDM STI9 spec C bottom end,
HKS FMIC
RCM 550's with FPR
Proper TD05 20G
Motec M48 pro (mafless)
much more but they are the main bits.
Didn't quite see 400 as didn't have FPR at the time, now waiting to have it tweaked again with a splash of meth.
Do a search chap, it's not cheap to do if you want the car to last.

you need to tell us what you have first and yea i agree with TonyBurns i had 5k for my build but its already gone and i dont know how much more i have spent already so be prepared i think if you are starting from scratch you can end up spending more then 10k if you dont spend carefully so just read on peoples threads you will get the real game. good luck

That said, you do have a 17 year old engine (assuming it's not already been rebuilt) so you should be expecting a rebuild at some point anyway.

ra with 350 will eat fq's in all except top end speed. 0-60 will be quicker, mid range will be quicker etc etc, dont forget ra is all about lightweight and acceleration.
would be interesting to find out what power a FQ would need to be to keep up a tuned RA (assuming decent drivers in both lol)

Also, many times people just pull a figure out of the air without having ever been in a car with that power. Pretty common scenario:
Punter: I want a car with x hundred bhp
Specialist: Ok, well I'll take you out in this for a spin
5mins later
Punter: YES!! Exactly what I want.
Specialist, well this one only has x hundred bhp and costs x thousand cheaper
Absolutely no disrespect to the OP intended but if he is working on a 17 year old base car he's either
a) just got a cheap bodyshell as a poject or is looking for a complete overhaul job (good luck to him)
b) is on a shoestring budget in which case there is NO chance of a reliable 400bhp!
Need to find out which before we can advise properly.
First question you ask when tuning is not "what do you want" but "how much have you got" lol

Best to replace the bearings also before putting the bottom end back in
Then brakes..... still going to be very expensive, and the ecu will have to be very good at knock correction (ie top end one)

Is the car going to be used as a daily car or just weekend and track? You could use meth and a 20g and that would make around 400 depending on how good a turbo you get. Is there a reason for going for 400?

Aiming for 380 bhp or thereabouts and accepting what you get is far less expensive than ensuring you actually have 400 plus bhp.
You need phase 1, 550cc injectors to get close to 400 plus FPR. 740cc injectors are good to over 500 bhp and allow for project creep. A proper 20G is good for 380 plus bhp depending whose rollers you use to measure the power and a 321H probably good to 390 bhp. Beyond 400 bhp you may as well aim for 430-450 on petrol with SC46 or MD321.
If you want to run methanol subject to the percentage run you can add 5-10% to these figures.

well if you hunt for the bit's call in faver's and want it to last you need about 16k it's the little things that you dont think about that all add up and do the brakes before the engine not like me saying 4 pots with good disc's and pad will do lol oh and worth every single penny and fight with the wife about what your spending

Yes Z32 MAF will allow 400bhp.
People always think 400bhp is easy, it's not
My 500bhp/tonne project is going to be a £30k build by the time im finished and thats doing 90% of the work myself!

so thats like double what mines cost for 100 more bhp and then it's like double again to go to 600bhp

Yea im running z32 maf with the apexi power fc, with apexi avcr boost controller. Got my 3" downpipe, 900cc injectors, v4 heads. Just need a good turbo eg sc46 or md321.
If anyone knows where i can get one that would be very helpful
