STI engines have forged pistons, the underside is smooth and marked with HF1/2/3/4 depending on the piston type/year. Yours have a hatching on the underside which means they are cast WRX type, the piston crown is the type used in the Phase 2 and later WRX engines, they could be 1999/2000 classic? but not STI.

Ta!
a lot newer than I thought.
It had the alloy cover behind the flywheel which dates it as well I suppose.
I think I might need some new piston rings for that last one.
Shame there's an inch of con rod missing as well, as my mate has a mig welder I can borrow, and the hole in the crankcase has filled over nicely with some of that plastic metal stuff.

HB twin dot pistons are 1999~2000 WRX.
Newage WRX went over to HBR twin dot pistons.

I took a set of identical rods from a classic wrx. They are low power items with stud and nut. I have a used set of 4 with standard size wrx pistons if you want them for the cost of postage and a drink.
