Default Eager to get my V1 WRX mapped, what mods should i do first?

Hello guys I'm eager to get my WRX mapped but don't want to waste money having to map it over and over again. Currently it has a de-cat exhaust, HKS panel filter, Powerchips piggy back/terminal bypass chip unknown spec, and Profec B boost control. I have a de-cat set of headers ready to go on and can get hold of an Apexi power fc ecu but should I be looking at upgrading the turbo and injectors before getting the Apexi? I dont need huge power, somewhere between 300-350 BHP would be great as I reckon this is probably around the reliable limit for a standard WRX lump anyway? Is the Apexi even essential for this sort of power?

Cheers

lets see, im doing this too as cheap as poss so my list is as follows.....de-cat exhaust, induction filter, 255lph fuel pump, 440cc injectors, if you have the td05 turbo its fine,i have changed my top mount intercooler too for the sti type then an esl daughter board and mapping, im also fitting an adjustable fuel regulator for good measure too. and that should easily get you over 300 bhp safely. job done.

Cheers for your input buddy, I think I'm gona go with the Apexi and a set of 440 injectors. As long as I see over 300 bhp I will be very happy.

Be tempted to add front mount to the above list rather than a larger top mount, apart from that i reckon youve got it covered.

My mod list for these cars goes something like this:

440cc injectors
Upgraded fuel pump
Up-rated intercooler, ideally front mount intercooler
De-cat downpipe 3" exhaust system
And then the ECU. Either Apexi with a decent boost controller, or a Simtek is your best bet.

Hope this helps,

Graham

Cheers Graham, I have just purchased the Apexi and am in the process of purchasing the 440 injectors but need to find someone with an adaptor kit. Next stop front mount although Ive got a feeling this is gona be expensive!! any recomendations? Also I wasn't aware a boost controller was still used with the Apexi ECU, do you reckon my old style profec b is up to it?
Great thread by the way.

Carl davey does the adapter kits for the injectors around 30 quid iirc

Harvey does good prices on hybrid front mount intercoolers, paid 260 quid for mine

I have the 440's, uprated fuel pump, the fmic(mines a '95 so i needed the apexi induction kit for it to fit), de-cat, td05 and gt spec headers + the apexi fc and get 337bhp/320 lb ft torque @ 1.3 bar.
I do have the fully forged set up tho for when I can afford the 6 speed box and 400+ bhp - btw you will need to upgrade your box to a 754 my box sharted in the first week!! but engine wise its been sweet for 18 mths or so approx 6k miles.

You wont be able to keep your original airbox so will have to go to induction of some type if you go front mount, but wouldnt be a bad thing going for that sort of power from a wrx

Yep, depending on the front mount kit you buy, you will need a blow off valve of some type as well as a silicon hose for the blow off valve take off on the front mount pipework, harvey sells these, but running a td05 you could always try running with no valve whatsoever and blank it off, sounds awesome and td05 strong enough to cope with it??.

If you only want 300bhp you can get a better TMIC

I have a FMIC in my one classic but I am trying other routes for my new classic to see what results I can get

Your gearbox will kak itself much over 300bhp, I currently have a 6speed which will set you back a couple of grand for those extra horses

Search for ARC intercoolers, I just bought one for peanuts on ebay

Thanks for the advice I think seeing as I've allready spent £650 today on the other bits I'm gona go the whole hog and get a front mount. I didn't realise the gearboxes where that weak! what is the full part number I need to look for and do I need the matching rear diff? (only after a five speed)

PS does Harvey have a website or do i just PM him?

Cheers

It has to be the apexi induction kit for the fmic on the pre 97 wrx as there is a box in the way and the apexi comes with a smaller one.
the gearbox is anything with ty754 but must have the matching rear diff, mine is 4.444 which closer ratio so real fast acceleration. there is a link somewhere that gives all the box codes and diff ratios etc, try looking in the transmission area.
