Loose Steering Rack?

I have a standard 2006 STi (EDM).
When I go over bumpy ground the steering wheel shakes and rattles a little as if something is loose.
The steering also feels a little vague, e.g. if I lift when going round a tight bend the car tightens it's line as you would expect, but you don't get any feedback through the steering wheel. I know the STI isn't reckoned to have the most accurate steering, but this doesn't feel entirely normal.
Car has about 35k miles on it and has seen a few track days.
Any ideas what might be up?

Running RE070's.
I don't have the quick rack (my car is European spec - EDM, not JDM).
Out of interest, does anyone know if the Spec C rack has more "feel" to it than the standard Europe / UK spec rack?
