Question What road and trackday brakes?

Right people I need advice please, currently have a 2001 bug wrx with the standard "subaru" calipers and standard discs and pads. The car is soon to be running somewhere between 260bhp to 290bhp.

What I would like to know is the best brake setup for road use with a few track days thrown in throughout the year.

I don't want to spend massive amounts of money but I do want to be able to stop very quickly and with minimal or no fade.
I will be also looking to get much better brake "feel" as I think the standard setup is poor for "feel" so will definitely be putting braided lines on.

Options I have considered so far are:

1. Standard size grooved discs and fast road/track pads, thinking maybe EBC grooved discs with red stuff pads? approx cost £300-350

2. Godspeed standard "subaru" caliper spacing kit with 335mm grooved discs and oversized pads. approx cost £550

3. Brembo conversion with grooved discs and upgraded pads (same discs and pads as option 1 just bigger STI size) approx cost £600-650

I also wonder if I am to keep the standard calipers whether its worth getting them refurbished?

All advice and comments of actual experience welcomed

Cheers
Nic

Brembo or K-Sport its good value for money,OE 4 pots are not best on New age(i would say poor),due weight of New age WRX.

But Goodspeed combo looking like good, don't tried personally.

Thanks for your input I did wonder about the standard setup.
If I go down the route of Brembo's then I will have to add around £200 for them being reconditioned

What you got on your car Jura?

Do these fit behind standard 17" wheels and do they include discs or is it just the calipers?

I went for full set of K-sport Front 356mm and Rear 330mm with DS2500.

I was tried EBC Blue stuff and grooved disc on 4pots,and i wasn't been too impressed.

Really worth to buy K-Sport 330mm combo(calipers, disc, braided lines) cost around £699-£799,sometimes its good deal on ebay,PH or here.

Brembo calipers with PF disc and pads its good combo too,but expensive in my view,if its worth most people say yes.

Yes will fit behind the 17" and in this are included K-sport discs, pads(which i would replace for EBC or DS2500),braided lines and mounting brackets etc.

Best is contact Bren,Ann@Apex Performance parts for deals and for more infos,or just have look here at Group Buy.

This is the pad you need for the K sport calipers , they are slightly wider than the ones in the link you have put up , the ones in your link are 51mm wide which are for the AP 6 pots , the ones in my link are for the K sports and are 54mm wide

Cheers Ian

A little more expensive but I would look at one of Ian's AP 330mm kits also, very good

I have used the Godspeed 335mm conversion with DS2500 and the K Sport 330mm with Bluestuff and would say that they are very closely matched. The K Sport look better but the Godspeed kit is better value for money and pedal feel seems better bit that maybe the pads , all IMO.

Once you factor the re-sell value of your current callipers into the equation the K-sports make even better sense.

I'd go with Std calipers, decent disks and DS2500 pads at that power.

Yeah a couple of mates of mine have suggested those pads, have been looking at either tarox G88 discs or Nitrac 8 or 12 grove discs to go with them.
Have also had mentioned Pagid pads

hi there i have just killed a set of pagid pads on my turbo 2000 at donny a few weeks ago. great fast road pad but not quite up to trackdays. im trying to find out where i can get some brackets to uprate the discs from 294mm to 330mm but still retain the subaru 4 pot calipers. i certainly cant afford a big brake conversion such as k sport alcon wilwood or even brembo so feel this is my best option. have you got any ideas please.

If you can't stretch to the cost of a new kit , there is a complete kit being sold on here for £450 including calipers , you could sell the calipers for £150 , so for around £300 it will make a huge difference in braking power over the standard size discs
