Big end rattle !!
After a few weeks running at 1 Bar and about 280+ BHP I have noticed arattle on start up on my 93 WRX. So I decidedto lift the revs after first starting it to about 3K and I could hear the bottomend, no noise when its warm, but it a definite knock. Now it could be the pistons, but I think it’s the bearings.
It’s a pity as good closed decks are hard to find.
So as an upgrade I have ordered a new rebuilt engine complete with V4 Stiheads. The plan will be to transplantall the aux items inlet ect and run the engine in before any more mods aredone.
Assuming I keep the standard slant intercooler and TD05, up the injectors to 440cc and either an ESLor something like that , is 330 Bhp arealistic figure. I have thought aboutfront mount, but I would rather have topmount , this is a difficult route at theV1 intake has very little options.
Is it a massive job to change to another inlet system to give an Sti typeintercooler fitment ?
Ideal figure is 350, but I would liketo go in stages as parts come my way.
One step at a time , and yes I dohave a UK WRX gearbox in the car , and Iknow its on borrowed time, but it’s a goodone and may last a while while I source another.
