engine oil advise

I use Bardahl 10w60 with Bardahl Turbo Portect additive and would highly recommend it. I won't use anything other than Bardahl on all my cars now.

You will find that advice on oil is varied and personal. Mainly the big names receive a cult following and people will be adamant that their oil is the best.

You definately dont need a 10w60, especially with winter coming up unless you want to take 100 miles for it to get up to heat.
Standard oil is a 10w40 semi synthetic, millers do a 10w40 fully synthetic which is more than adequate for your car without it having to sap the power like a 60 oil does.
Tony
PS 10w60 oil isnt rated by subaru to be suited for their engines, though alot of 400+bhp cars run it on here, still not a good oil for alot of scoobs.

No you dont need any additives to protect the turbo, the standard semi synthetic oil is good enough to keep a turbo lubricated, a fully synthetic will provide more cold start protection though and will last longer as it doesnt break down as easily as a semi synthetic (hence you have 7.5k service intervals).
Go have a look on opie oils web site, used alot on here

Thanks for that Tony.
I agree about the viscosity, 10w-60 is too thick for a Scooby. I think there is one guy that we deal with who actually needs a 10w-60 in his Impreza and that one is massively modified and anything thinner than 10w-60 gets burned off way too quickly. For most Imprezas pre-2000, a 10w-40 synthetic is ideal, semi-synthetic if you want a cheaper option. If the car gets used hard, definately go for a synthetic as it costs less in the end.

The best oils there are the Motul 300V, Redline, Gulf Competition and Millers CFS. As a cheaper option, go for the Fuchs XTR, Magnatec, Motul 6100, Mobil 2000, Shell HX7 or Gulf Tec Plus.
If the car is heavily modified and/or used on track a lot, 10w-50 may be a better option.

Those ones are as good as each other, proper top end oils.
There's no need for additives. Good, reputable oils contain all that is necessary to do what they are needed to do. Adding something to the mix can ruin what is already ideal.
Cheers
