Sloppy gearstick syndrome
Hi guys, just after some info really.
When I put it into gear there is alot of movement left and right in the stick. It never jumps out of gear or has any problems going into gear but the excessive movement is too much.
Now is this likely to be the knuckle joint under the car or the big rubber bushing at fault, as I have found replacements of these?
Any help is much appreciated.

It'll probably be the shifting links at the base of the gear stick, or mostly anyway. This virtually cured my sloppy gearstick..

Oh I do plan on getting a short shifter
But, I can't see how this would help as from new I'm sure there wouldn't be this much left/right movement when in gear? Although, if it is the actually gearstick, then what part is it that has worn?
When I do some more bits underneath, I'll have to have a look for anything obvious.

as said could be the linkage on the underside of the car or could be the bearings and washers on the gearstick where its mounted the the fork linkage.I just changed the bearings in my stick as they were rattling on hard acceleration and had lot of movement.

Its a 2 prong issue this caused by 1 thing, people keeping their hands on the gear leaver whilst driving.
Instead of taking their hands off the leaver they keep their hands on, causing undue pressure on those nice parts of the gearbox, or leaver assembly, it can also cause premature syncro failure too so after you have replaced it with a quick shift, remember not to keep your hand on the leaver

Haha, very good mate. If I didn't know otherwise, I might have thought that was the case.
