Default P1 Crank.

My P1 engine started knocking the other day, had it in bits and one of the rods has picked up on the crank. Bad news.

Had a word with a couple of engine places local and all say they dont have a small enough tool to re-grind it.

Does anyone know a good place for a crank re-grind (im assuming they can be and fit oversize shells??) or a good place to get a replacement.

Thanks.

a lot of people think its ok to do this i for 1 was one of them

apparantley its trying to clean the swarfe out after the grind thats near impossible without the correct process , the cost to clean it out right etc outweighs just buying another

not necesarily mate i payed 150 for a very good bottom end from wrx400 on here and have rebuilt an rb26 myself in the past for under 600 quid and its going strong with new rings , hone , bearings and second hand crank

not all things are expensive you just need a little bit of brass on your neck

buy cheap is not always buy twice

personally i dont think he will replace the crank etc without replacing the bearings etc anyway

would change the oil modene though as stevemort said these can cause bother too if in bad condition internally , they leak on skylines and a lot of people and garages change the headgasket and guess what , more goo on the cap lol

subaru themselves are not extortionate , rods i would get from someone who has just rebuilt there engine and is not in need of the rods failing that the states for forged ones

would admit buying second hand subaru cranks is more a hit and miss , buying from a reputable person / breaker would be the way to go if looking second hand , just remember that there are centre thrust types and rear thrust i think

I'm not after doing it on the cheap i just want best price for parts for shells, crank, bearings and rods. All preferably new for the right price.

Everything else looks good, the reason it went is because there was a dent in the sump right below the oil pick up which restricted the oil flow. With it being piston 4 thats gone im assuming it was starved with it being furthest??
