quick question as looking at options for my knocking lump, can you split the cases with the heads still on and change crank or is it a ballache?
on a very tight budget and engine spot on apart from big end starting to knock slightly, other option is a complete very good low mileage engine from a member on here with a deal for my old cdb?

No you cant m8 have to strip it completely and clean them out just in case any bits in there, the heads have to come of to excess the bolts that hold it together also the piston need taken out.
I would have someone do it for you m8 get it wrong can cost ya loads
I would say the best way for you to go is buy a bottom end, plenty out there
