Default Oil in Exhaust port

Hi Guys,

Last time my cars was having some work done (replacing headers) my mechanic noticed a slight oil leak in one of the exhaust ports on the drivers side head. There was a small oil trail evident as a damp patch (no drip) in one port.

His diagnosis was that it looked like a leaking exhaust valve oil seal - others have suggested it may be the oil control ring.

Anybody got any ideas?

Valve stem seal sounds likely to me.

Does it puff smoke after idling for a while?

If so likely to be valve stem seal.

Probably nothing to worry about unless it gets worse. Worn valve guides or seal per post above.
