Default Need block which one though?? or 2.5 block

I have a 2004 Wrx which has had a lot of work and was running around 430bhp. Anyway my problem is that i need a new block. Reading through stuff some say a 2001-2005 will fit but other say 1999-2005 is the same. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Also i have been thinking about using a 2.5 block. Is it as straight forward as bolting it altogther? What sort of power can a 2.5 STI block take as if i went this route i wouldnt be able to use my previous forged pistons, rods and crank.

Thanks for any help

Personally try source EJ22 and get this engine stroked to 2.35 with forged internals or STi V7/V8 should be great option,as well CDB,you have lot more option, just depends on how much you are looking bhp and how much boost...

Well if thats the case i may aswell use another 2.0 block and use all my previous forged internals as there is nothing wrong with them. What happened is that the clip the hold the grudgen pin on the piston/rod had some how come out causing the pin to put a grove in my block. But no damage has been done to the pistons, rods or crank. It has been running 430bhp for over 15k with no issues.
Thanks

Have you already got an uprated gearbox, or 6-speed installed?

If not, don't go 2.5, or you will need one to handle the extra torque.

Just going to try and keep around the 400bhp mark as its a daily driver aswell. Only thing that got me last time was the turbo lag. It was 433.8 bhp on the last map it had.

If you are looking for reducing lag on yours 2.0L i would suggest AVCS(these you can pick up for £400).

Or other option will be again only 2.35 or 2.5

Last question which turbo you are running?

Just to give you an idea..... I've got a forged 2.5 with AVCS heads in my 2002 WRX - to run the AVCS I needed to add Syvecs, I'm not sure if the 2004 WRX were AVCS to start with if not budget for Simtek/Syvecs as well.

My engine is an Andy Williams build (WMS on here) and was around the £4k mark as a built long engine with mine as a donor. He's currently selling a long engine on ebay (wms-deals4u) for £2995 fully built 2.5 rally engine with running in miles only.

Subaru Impreza ej25 STI forged long engine avc heads

Or something like........
Semi Forged EJ20
You'd need to get your heads fitted to a block at the spec above as your manifold won't fit!

I went the 2.5 route as I was looking for around the 450/450 mark - if you want much more than this then you should be looking at a 2.1 (ideally cdb) or a 2.35 (based on the 2.2. cdb). The key thing with the 2.5 is it makes for a very torquey drive and a great road car IMHO.

I wouldn't be too convinced about re-using some of your parts either - all will need a bloody good clean out in case any of the material from the damage to your block has contaminated them, I wouldn't be surprised if the piston in the damaged bore is marked, you need to think of new oil modine cooler as well as these are impossible to clean out. You really don't want a piece of swarf from the damaged bore wreking a piston or blocking an oilway on the new build.

At those figures any block is fine as long as it's forged, it's up to you what power delivery you want, spool and torque improves as you go from 2.0-2.1-2.35-2.5, cost wise a 2.1 is no more expensive to build than a 2.0 a 2.35 is expensive as the blocks are hard to find, 2.5's tend to be about £300-500 more than a 2.0/2.1 as would a closed deck 2.0, what about a 2.25?......something I have in progress ;-) The question I always ask my Customers is what do you want to spend, buy cheap buy twice!!

I'm building it into an open deck 2.0 (pinned) block using an 84mm stroke crank, custom I beam rods and 2.1 pistons, it's a forged (4340) crank so will be pretty strong, it's taking some work to get it to fit and rotate but it's all fitting now, I should have it in a car and running mid December. The aim is for big midrange grunt and good spool, I don't know of anyone else thats tried this yet?

Well I might have come across a 2.5 with forged pistons. Just trying to find out a bit more info on it.
