i went to fit the sendor for my oil temp gauge but i have rounded the hole you put the allen key in will i have to use a sandwich plate now if so will it still give a good reading cheers
You could 'T' off from the OEM oil pressure switch.
Mick
do you mean the one under the alternator as i have the braided hose for this one for the oil pressure so can i use it for both as it has two bits for sendors
How did you manage to round off that hole, and NOT the Allen key you were using?
I assume you DID use a GOOD QUALITY 8mm Allen key?
Yes a good 8mm key the hole was a bit tight with rust so tapped the allen key in place then tried to turn it but it didnt budge just the allenkey spinned now just turns in the hole any info on where to put the sendor now cheers
So Can i use the oem sensor under the alternator to run both the oil temp and oil pressure gauges as i have the braided hose with two fittings on it and will it still give a good reading for both gauges thanks

I used that one to fit the OE sender and the gauge sender as they use different senders, I'm not sure running 3-senders of the same would work.
You could always try a drift and hammer the bung out using the hammer and drift to turn it in the thread, mine wasn't that tight and I suspect it was the rust rather than seizure that caused it to spin. Alternatively, try and hammer in a larger (9mm) allen socket and use a ratchet to loosen it off
Cheers jon will try the 9mm key first if it doesnt work can i use the oem under the alternator and i would just be putting the gauge sendors in and doing away with the oem sensor cheers
If you bin the OEM sender remember to remove the bulb from the oil pressure warning light otherwise you'll have a moment when you forget the sensor isn't there

Don't put an oil temp under the alternator you won't get any oil flow so reading will be way off. This location is fine for the stock oil pressure switch and oil pressure gauge sender.
Best reading for temp is the sump as the sender is upside-down so has better oil supply. Also under manifold temps can cause inaccuracies with No 3 location.
That is correct, it is the place Subaru provide, and that for a reason: No3 cylinder is known to run hottest.
Put it there, anywhere else gives low readings.
thats what i thought and a checked my allenkey after it spinning on sunday you were right the allen key was rounded so got a socket with the allenkey in it from a mechanic that comes into my work cheers
Valid point alcazar, but don't you want to know all your oil is hot before you give it the berries & not just the oil near No 3. Also If the bung won't come out on No 3 a sump sender is the best solution.

If I'd saw this thread earlier, would have posted the socket I bought, for you to use/borrow.
Above No.3 is the best place for oil temp IMO, but, if the bung is buggered, T off from the oil pressure adaptor, as Merlin said earlier in the thread.
Cheers micky will give it one last try tomorrow finish at one see how it goes or i might just hit it with a hammer and chisel as dunx says then again maybe not
so i have put the oil temp sensor into the t-piece off the oil pressure switch but im not getting a reading thought it was the sensor so bought another one still no reading so can it be gauge thats knackered as it was used when i bought it cheers
no couldnt get the bung out even gave it to the mechanic i use tried earthing straight from battery even tried getting the gauge to move by running a wire from the water gauge sensor just to see if it would move but nothing

its a autogauge and the water and oil pressure both work the oil temp lights up and the needle moves to 150 when you turn the ignition on this is the second sensor i have tried and nothing

Do what alcazar says, if the sensor is Ok then as suggested by others that location is no good. Your only option now is sump bung location as I suggested before. Mine is in a sump bung adapter & works perfectly.
