any reason why a fuel pump would cut me off but not at a full tank?
..i know how to use a fuel pump and i do have the necessary grip to keep the pump activated, so its not that
brought the car a few weeks ago, filled it up right away at a nearby BP, filled up to the top, £70ish.
today noticed the tank was about 1/4 full so decided to fill it up. went into my local shell and started filling up, however the pump cut me off about 5 litres in and now the fuel gauge shows somewhere inbetween 1/3 and 1/2.
what is going on? in between the 2 fill-ups, the only thing i can think of is that it's been to a garage for a full service at my local indy but why would the fuel cut off, cut me off when the tank isn't full?
granted i haven't tried a different pump yet but is there anything on the car which might suggest this sort of behaviour?

Pump triggers - in my experience on other cars at least - can be temperamental buggers! Did you try varying finger pressures/trigger positions - rather than just fully closed up?
Did you also try differing positions of the nozzle in the filler hole i.e. varying degrees of insertion depth (LOL!) and/or rotation?

Even if it cuts you off next time - keep trying the above. It just might cause it to restart.
After a few attempts, you eventually 'get a feel' for the trigger's position with respect to the pump valve remaining open and allowing fuel to flow...

i'll see what happens next time i try to fill up, usually full pressure on the fuel pump does the job and have never run into this issue before.
hopefully its just foamy!

Had this issues with my classic when I went to fill it. The tank was empty and I filled less then 1 litre in and it stopped. I realised its because of the way the tank is and if you push the nozzel all the way in the pump thinks its full.

went to a different shell and worked fine so can only assume it was the foaming that alcazar mentioned.
