Default Struggling to get four pots bled and working on classic....

Really strange. never had this problem before. I must have bled each corner 80 times in the end. Still a completely spongy brake pedal once I start the car up. Pumping it doesn't firm it up.

I did feel a bit like if I tried to tighten the brake line to caliper bolts right up they might thread, so maybe I haven't done them up enough? I was nervous about ruining any of the calipers. Can I be firm with them and really tighten them up hard or will they indeed thread?

I had to give up in the end and call it a night after spending all night at it. The other possibility is that the one man bleed kit that has been sat under a pile of parts in the garage for 6 months has got a damaged non return valve. I'll buy a new one tonight.

Any advice on those bolts would really help

Have you got the calipers on the correct side? They can be fitted the wrong way round. The bleed nipple should be at the top. If its at the bottom they wont bleed properly

Ah!!! You know, I think that is what I have done. Jesus now I feel stupid. That should have been obvious. Doh!

Thanks very much for that.

Any word on how tight I can do the brake line bolts up?

Just nip them up tight, there is no torque setting so you can only feel it.

dont feel stupid lol. Its a pretty common mistake. As above really. They need to be tightish so as not to leak or suck air in. But dont go mad with them.

I would bleed all 4 brakes starting with the one farthest away from the reservoir to be sure.

Can we have a forum for this?
This one goes with "Why do my sidelights no longer switch off?", and "why does my interior boot release no longer work?"

LOL

If you`r going to remove the calipers asgain, why not upgrade your fluid to 5.1?? And have you got braided hoses, they make a massive difference.

The switch on the steering top no doubt, caught me out as I thought it was hazards (ignoring the hazard switch on the left that was so obvious).. got out and thought, hmm don't remember turning sidelights on and why arent my hazards working

Not forgetting newbies - i.e. ME with my first WRX - trying to operate the front washer, by turning the rear-wipe rotary **** all the round to 'the stop' and wondering why no squirty at the front. As it just so happened to be low on water, so the rear didn't squirt either! - thus me being none the wiser.
