If im correct in presuming you mean the block faces aswell as the heads it is a fair amount of work to be honest and i would only recommend it either during an engine build or if the headgasket had gone in such a manor that made you believe you had to have it done. In an ideal world it would be done every time a headgasket is changed but the engine has to be stripped to carry this out so the result is more labour and parts
hey guy well my bro a mechanic and he skimmed his mg for better compresson and said hes going to do it to hes scooby wrx 97
No, no, no, no and NO again.
You MUST NOT mess with compessuion ratio unless you know EXACTLY wghat you are doing.
A Turbo engine will only react in ONE way, should you do that, and that's to destroy itself!
I know, been there by accident due to a mechanic like your briother who didn't know his stuff, just THOUGHT he did, and mine blew the engine
Tell him not to as well.
Why does he think that gaskets are sold in different thicknesses?
It's to KEEP THE COMPRESSION RATIO THE SAME should it be NECESSARY to skim heads or blocks because of a defect.
Don't mess about with compression unless you know what you are doing!!!!!!!!!!

Id suggest going tosee the local engine builder with a knowledge of these engines bud yes if due to defect you will have to skim them but the correct/oversized gaskets should allways be used.
If building/making a stronger/better engine was this simple we would all be at it
Sure, you build an engine and fit it out for higher compression, then map it, that's OK, but just to raise the compression and expect it to perform, that's lunacy.
