Wink maf sensor testing?

anyone know how to test a maf sensor on a subaru wagon turbo 1997 r plate please?

it is the purple maf unit i have, seen somewhere you can test voltage from the 3 coloured wires on the plug into it, i have tried this as was assumed that you get a certain voltage at tickover and it will rise in voltage upon zipping the throttle! tried mine and makes no difference unless i am doing something wrong, can anyone advise me on what wire/wires to check etc, to put my mind at rest that the maf is suspect faulty!

thanks alot.

Google - test maf with a multimeter you might find something. Have you connected the 2 black connectors under your steering column to see if you've got any fault codes? That should tell you if your maf has an issue but if you want to put your mind at rest get it to a specialist.

hi mark champion.

thanks for the reply, thats a great video and diagram mate ,thanks. i have ordered a maf now but i will take mine off and look at the solder connections anyway, sods law that after i just paid for one! along with a coil too! already paid for new plugs and leads, be slightly annoyed if its just a bad solder connection on the plug as per your reply vid?!

will keep you posted....thanks...

hi deano1988.

i will google the maf testing, thanks mate...no not connected the 2 black wires together, whats that do then? if it shows you a fault code some how, how? otherwise yes will check the above video as it may just be a bad solder connection on the maf sensor unit!
thanks.

i posted a link in your previous thread, when you turn the key to on, dont start the car, the cel will flash, even flashes means theres no problems detected, slow then fast flashes depending on the sequence means theres an issue look on scoobypedia.co.uk

thanks for your reply deano etc.

i checked the maf sensor pin connections, nothing noticeable found, my bad luck!, i removed and resoldered them anyway, no difference made tho, dam.
oh well will change the maf when the other arrives and see what happens, failing this then the coil as got that coming too!

in meantime might be worth my while checking to see if any fault codes appear by joining the wires as per under steering coloum.....i am sure this has them as its a 97 plate and cant a plug in odb socket, no obd socket found only some wires under the coloum!

thanks.

Hello

Yeap no OBD on an 97. Faults can be read with a Subaru Select Monitor or by just conecting the wires as per the link above. With a faulty MAF you may not get a fault code registered on the ECU until the MAF it totally shot to bits.

Remember to reset the ECU after you change the MAF. Instructions on how to can be found on Scoobypedia or just discount the battery for a while (an hour or so should be enough)

Good luck

Mark
