hi when i rev the engine and take my foot off acc there is a ticking noise comming from turbo area.took exhaust off the impeller in the compressor housing has play up and down.there is no damage to blades or housing.could this be the problem?havnt tried anything else yet help please?

 

pretty hard to diagnose 'funny noises' over the internet mate! There are a few bits in that area that can tick, injectors, boost solenoid, cylinder head.

Slight play is normal but there should be no end float. If you have excessive play it will usually be oily in the housing. As already stated hard to diagnose without hearing it. If you can't find what it is take it to your local Scooby specialist.

Did you ever find out what the noise was? As iv just fitted a td05 16g to my 2003 wrx and when im just driving at low revs (ie normal driving) it sounds like the turbo fans ticking, also when i let off the throttle it sounds like i can hear them slowing down! Not like a spooling noise but a ticking/somthing catching! Hope theres nothing wrong as it booked in for its map next week!
Could it be a blow in the exhaust casusing me to be able to hear this?
