2door type r's
Are all of the above including the wrc limited edition, and v limited short ratio gearbox ? Looking at few of these at hursts cars bedford but will be doing a few motorway drives and heard it can be a bit uncomfortable with high revs at 70 mph.does anyone have one and think its not too bad ? Its only gonna be the odd trip to devon 2 to 3 times a year.
Anyone know a link for differences with the above cars too as i get a bit lost lol.

Hiya mate, yes all the type R's are short boxes.I don't mind driving on motorways in mine.I usually just sit at around 60mph which is at 3000 rpm in 5th gear.
I haven't got a link that I know of with the different models but any questions you have just fire away.
Most type R owners on here know their cars to the detail.
There is also a forum worth looking at called http://www.type-ra.co.uk/
Hopefully that link works,it's worth a look.
Danny.

I only use mine at weekend and most of time for weekends away where we do a few motorway miles and its great the powers there if you need it but mainly cruise at 70mph. Bring on the fun come the A Roads. Depending on your exhaust the noise is the only thing which can be abit wearing but I'd sacrifice that for pops and Bangs any day.

v2 sti ra, 60mph is 3.5k
im led to belive the later the car the longer the ratios
some useful info here

Many thanks for replies peeps, ive got bug sti and was gonna do a few things with it but now may go for a type r v5 or v6 but dont know much about them,so a few more questions if you dont mind,
Are they forged or semi forged internals ? Are they reliable or as can be ?heard that p1 engines tend to let go( maybe ive got this wrong )so is it same lump as p1. And generaly do they have any weakneses i need to look for ? Ive had 3 scoobys so know a little but not the type r's.thanks.

Good to hear mate. With regard to your questions,
The v5 and 6 that you're thinking of getting both have forged pistons.
In may I will have had my v5 for a year and it's been awesome so far.Only thing that went wrong so far is the mass airflow sensor started to fail, which cost me £101 for a genuine Subaru item.
They are common faults and are renowned for killing engines if left that way.
The type R and P1 are the same engines and a few common things that kill these engines are a failing maf like mentioned above, poor fuel being used like regular unleaded and badly modified engines that have not been remapped.People just bolt on parts expecting more power without remapping the ecu.
If you use v power only then a remap isn't as urgent but you do have piece of mind if you get it done.
Mine is almost completely standard and original and only gets v power so I haven't had mine mapped yet but I plan on getting it done soon.It runs absolutely spot on and isn't too bad on fuel either.
Engine wise the maf is the most common fault the same as the sti v5's and 6's really. If an engine has been well serviced they can last very well.
You do see a lot of late classics go bang on here but people only really post about problems.Nobody posts threads saying their car is spot on.
There are a lot of late classics out there with lots of miles on them and they're very reliable.
If you see one you like post a picture of the ad on here and just look after it.(regular services and decent fuel).
Avoid cars with lots of mods that don't mention being remapped.
Danny.

Don't forget it's only the STi version of the Type R that has the nominal forged pistons.
There's also a WRX based Type R V-Limited, which doesn't - as obviously it's a WRX spec engine.
Thing is Carl, the OEM STi v.5/6 pistons (and the v.3/4 ones) aren't all that, TBH. Especially now they're gonna have a decent mileage on them. I wouldn't run much more than 380-400bhp on the motor (even then, it's prob pushing things - dependent on usage).
Plus, all the Classic rods, whether WRX or STi, are the same IIRC. And they are actually probably the weakest link when going beyond c.350bhp.

Well my bug sti is a minter, used daily, never lets me down and is looked after, had it three and a half years so fancy a change and loved my slightly modded uk turbo 2000 with vf28.
What bhp are these standard form 280 ?
Can they be mapped on oe ecu ?
I wouldnt want silly bhp as its gonna feel quicker compared to the newage i got now.i do love how reliable mines been for over 3years yet my turbo 2000 was the same, was gonna change brand of car but im sober now lol lol.
Just need to see if i can do my homework on what the difference is between the models,ie sti type r wrc limited ed,type r v limited etc etc ....
Thanks for advice and any more imfo would be great.carl.

Aside from the looks aspect, I think you'd be 'mad' to change to a Classic. Your Bug STi is the best £/bhp springboard to mod from! Okay, it's heavier, but...
Yours just needs a SC46 billet/supp. mods/remap, and you'll have at least 420 (but hopefully nearer 450). Your car's internals can handle that, no prob. You'd have to fully forge a Classic to be able to safely do the same.
Plus of course you have the 'unburstable' 6-sp.! It'd be mad to get rid of the Bug.
Why not get a Classic IN ADDITION? Use it as a daily driver, but mod the Bug instead.
And yeah, all WRX and STi saloons from MY97 (v.3) on, got 280PS (276bhp).

Wouldnt want 450 on standard internals really mate as its not totaly fool proof is it,also to get an extra 60 plus bhp would be around 3k ! And the value of her is falling all the time, just think a classic type r will have the extra grin factor i want and also ive had my sti over 3 years so fancy a change.still love mine and will not give it away.carl.

Found this on Hursts's site:-
HONDA CIVIC EK9 TYPE R RX 230BHP
c.40bhp up on std.
Always had a soft spot for these.
Not heard of an "RX" version - is it the equivalent to an Evo's "RS" - i.e. lighter/sparse Clubman' spec.?

Insurance can be a bit harsh but I got mine for reasonable money.
When you first give a type R a bit of a thrash on some empty roads, going up and down the box it's one of the best Subaru experiences for having fun.
The first time I had a play in mine it was only maybe 5 mins of fun but my mouth was mega dry once I calmed down.
When you get one, keep a bottle of water with you.
Danny.
