engine rebuild...IS IT WORTH THE MONEY?
Hi guys!I have a classic 1997 sti and i'm thinking about rebuild because car has 150000 m which is more than enough and i also want a moore power for everyday use(around 400bhp) so can u give me a little advice about brands or garages with good quality but also good price...or is it better to buy whoole forged engine???And what about differentials and gearbox...how much can handle???....Thanks for help...

Probably want to cap it to around 350 unless you want to put the box at risk.
As for builds at that power a SCDB 2.0/2.1 will be fine CBD bomb proof but more expensive. You could just drop a Newage Sti bottom end in without forging/rebuild at that level as well.
A 2.5 is also an option but more complex re. headwork and insurance and would produce more torque so really push the gearbox.
If it was me I'd get a 2.1 stroker built into the original block (assuming it's semi or closed deck) and the heads refurbished (possibly get a port & polish) at the same time, replace the sump, oil modine and water pump plus fit an uprated oil pump. New gaskets/seals all round. Plenty of people could do this, listed in no particular order - Api, Engine Tuner, Lateral Performance, Roger Clark, Pennine Subaru, Williams Motorsport etc. etc.
Talk to a few of the familiar names that pop up on here and seee what they suggest, David at Api, Alan at engine tuner or Andy (Williams motorsport) are all very helpful chaps!

As A rule of thumb up to 350bhp is relatively easy and cost effective to do, you can achieve this with a decent built short engine, vf35/34 td05 etc. Once you start looking for over that and more toward 400bhp it starts to get alot more expensive, clutch, gearbox, aftermarket turbo, injectors etc. It's all down to budget at the end of the day.
